Florida Communication Association Conference News:
At the Florida Communication Association Conference in October in Daytona Beach, Christa Arnold, Diana Nagy, Ed Kellerman and Stephanie Webster represented the Dial Center. The NCASC-Gator Chapter won the FCA Grant, for their proposal to sponsor a communication and leadership conference for high school leaders in the spring. Several UF students were awarded with special recognition:
- Top Undergraduate Paper: Jie Deng, "Communication in Medicine: The Pre-Medical Student's Perspective" (Faculty Advisor, Christa Arnold)
- Best Oral Poster Presentation - Brynn Huysman and Kayla Stanley, "Cohabitation and Communication" (Faculty Advisor, Diana Karol-Nagy)
- Top Poster Award - Jim Careccia, "Preparing for the Future: Implementing a Family Communication Course in High School" (Faculty Advisor, Diana Karol-Nagy)
- Brynn Huysman, Kayla Stanley and Jim Careccia also presented papers on the Top Student Papers panel
- FCA Student Scholarship this year went to UF senior, Jim Careccia (Major, Public Relations; Minor, Communication Studies)
Christa Arnold will serve as the next editor of the Florida
Communication Journal starting with the Fall 2008 edition. Diana Nagy
was elected as the first FCA vice president and conference chair for
the 2008 conference, which will be hosted in Gainesville next year from
Oct. 16-18, 2008.
